At BAEMIN, I was in charge of designing the Exploration Journey - a multi-phase effort that helps users discover restaurants, dishes, and promotions. In this case study, I’ll highlight my refinements to the search experience - the cornerstone of that journey - and show how they make finding the perfect meal faster and more engaging.

Background

According to the User NPS/CSAT Reports and UXR findings, there are some negative experiences in the Search Journey on the BAEMIN app that need improvement.

Current Problems

Design challenge

  • HMW improve the search results to help users find dishes quickly?

  • HMW improve no-result screen and mistyping keyword?

  • HMW improve filters to make better search experiences for the users?

Enhance search performance

The old search engine doesn’t work well for search by item and limitation for some logic. I need to work with engineers to replace and coverage the current search engine, and also improve search performance.

There are many factors that affect Search results. After some investigations, we found a better formula to calculate the weight to show better results and give them reasonable points:

  • Similar keyword

  • Distance

  • Partner

  • Intonation

How to measure success?

North star metric: Increase conversion rate from search screen to merchant screen
